Visuals of The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy At All TV anime’s lead characters, Mitsuki Koga and Aya Osawa, have been revealed.
The anime was announced in 2025 and got a teaser trailer and January 2027 start date in July of this year.
The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy At All is based on the manga by Sumiko Arai. The premise has rock-loving high schooler Aya (Akari Kito) falling for a CD shop employee (Mariya Ise) who, unbeknownst to her, is female and is also Aya’s next-seat neighbor in class, Mitsuki.
Masashi Ishihama (Horimiya, Persona5 The Animation, From The New World) is directing the anime at CLOVERWORKS with character designs by Kanna Hirayama (OSHI NO KO, Rent-A-Girlfriend) and series composition by Rino Yamasaki (The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity).
The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy At All manga is posted on X/Twitter, with tankobon volumes published by KADOKAWA under the Kitora label. A fifth volume will be released on January 13.
The manga was the winner of the Next Manga Awards 2023 web manga category and the second American Manga Awards’ Best New Manga award.
