Netflix has dropped a “Cyberpsycho” clip for next month’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, focusing on the character Weak “King” Kingsley (Kentaro Tone) during a job gone wrong.
Weak is one of the main stars of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners sequel, which leaves behind Lucy and David for a new core cast. “Once known as ‘King,’ a veteran edgerunner at the top of his game, Weak now lives in the shadow of his former glory,” reads his profile.
The clip includes a brief appearance by Weak’s co-star Roman (Momoko Terasawa), “a young cinephile chasing real stories in a city that’s abandoned film for braindance.” The full 10-episode series will also feature Talia Yang (Akari Kito), a Maelstrom ganger with a corporate background, and D (Koki Uchiyama), a netrunner looking for revenge as the only survivor of Snake Nation.
On the production side, Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 is directed by Kai Ikarashi (Cyberpunk Edgerunners Episode 6 storyboard artist and animation director et al., Tengoku Daimakyo Episode 10 storyboard artist and director et al.) at returning animation production studio TRIGGER. Other staff include Ichigo Kanno (Metallic Child animation trailer director) as lead character designer, Naobito Uchida as assistant director, TRIGGER CEO Masahiko Otsuka (Cyberpunk Edgerunners assistant director and co-scriptwriter, Promare and Gurren Lagann assistant director) as scriptwriter, and Tsuneo Imahori as music composer. CD PROJEKT RED VP of Franchise Bartosz Sztybor (Cyberpunk Edgerunners narrative director) is credited as showrunner, story writer, and producer.
The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime are inspired by CD Projekt Red’s 2020 sci-fi open world RPG Cyberpunk 2077, which is in turn based on the tabletop RPG by Mike Pondsmith. The first series, which was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (Promare, Kill la Kill, Gurren Lagann) and released on September 13, 2022, told the rise and fall story of street kid David (KENN) and his romance with netrunner Lucy (Aoi Yuki). It inspired a prequel spin-off manga and video game collaborations with GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- and Wuthering Waves, and had an artbook release in 2026.
