A TV anime adaptation has been announced for Part 4 of Ascendance of a Bookworm, adapting the “Founder of the Royal Academy’s So-Called Library Committee” storyline. A release date of the new anime series, which will have WIT Studio as the animation production company, has not yet been confirmed.
The anime’s fourth season, Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke, adapts the third part of the light novel series. It first aired in Japan on April 4, 2026 and concluded with 24 episodes on October 3, 2026.
Yoshiaki Iwasaki (Kowloon Generic Romance) directed the fourth season, with Mariko Kunisawa (The Dinner Table Detective) as series composer and Aiko Minowa as character designer. WIT Studio was in charge of the animation production, replacing Ajia-do, which produced the previous three seasons.
Meanwhile, the anime’s main voice cast stars Yuka Iguchi as Rosemyne and Show Hayami as Ferdinand.
The anime’s first season was released in Japan in October 2019. It was followed by a second season in April 2020 and a third season in April 2022. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime’s previous seasons in select countries and territories.
The isekai fantasy light novel series is written by Miya Kazuki and illustrated by You Shiina. The series was published by TO Books from January 25, 2015 to December 9, 2023. A total of 33 volumes were released in Japan. The series began as a web novel on Shosetsuka ni Naro from September 2013 to March 2017.
Ascendance of a Bookworm has also inspired several spin-off titles, short story collections, and manga adaptations, as well as a sequel light novel series in April 2017.
J-Novel Club licensed the light novels and manga for English digital release. It describes the first volume of the light novels’ Part 4 (13th volume overall in the series) as:
Rozemyne awakens from her slumber to a world not as she remembers it. Unease stirs her heart, but she has no time to rest ― she is soon to be enrolled in the Royal Academy as an archduke candidate. There, she’ll need to master controlling her mana, creating magic tools, and performing the magic necessary to rule as an archduke.
Rozemyne meets eccentric teachers and students from other duchies, all the while aiming to be the best big sister she can be. With a massive library on the premises, however, there is little chance things will go according to plan. She feverishly delves into its collection, forgetting all about the other archduke candidates and even the royal family. She truly will do anything for books!
