The production of a sequel to the Nippon Sangoku: The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun TV anime has been announced.
The original Spring 2026 series began streaming on Prime Video on April 5 and started its broadcast on April 6 at 24:00 JST (effectively April 7 at 1:00 JST). It adapts Ikka Matsuki‘s manga, where various developments have thrust Japan into a new Three Kingdoms era. The synopsis reads:
In a near-future Japan where civilization has regressed due to nuclear war, natural disasters, and corrupt governance.
The nation fractures into three, plunging into a new Three Kingdoms era as each vies for supremacy.
Aoteru Misumi, once an obscure local bureaucrat, sets his sights on the reunification of Japan.
Armed with vast knowledge and exceptional eloquence, he steadily rises.
The legend of the man later known as the prodigious strategist begins now.
Kazuaki Terasawa (The Ancient Magus Bride Season 2) directed Nippon Sangoku at Studio Kafka. The cast included Kensho Ono as Aoteru Misumi and Jun Fukuyama as Asama Yoshitsune.
The manga began in November 2021 and has seven volumes as of April 2026. It is serialized on Shogakukan’s Manga ONE.
